ABOUT

Matt Abraxas

Astrologer • Artist • Filmmaker

I have spent most of my life inside systems that promised to explain existence. Born Again Christianity. Gurdjieff's Fourth Way. Vipassana. Existentialism. Fine art. Cinema. Plant medicine.

Each one cracked something open.

None of them was the whole picture.

Evolutionary Astrology was the first framework that could hold everything within it, and still exist in the 3-dimensional life.

I grew up inside Born-Again Christianity, which instilled in me a hunger: the real, unsatisfied need for something absolute. It also gave me an early education in how a system of love (supposedly) can become a machine for control.

I am still navigating through my feelings around this. I won't pretending otherwise.

What I kept from that upbringing was the hunger itself. The insistence that something real exists beneath the surface of ordinary life.

That turned out to be the most useful thing.

THE PATH THROUGH

"Every system I entered, I eventually outgrew. This wasn't a failure of those systems. In some regard, it was the success of them. It was the whole point."

A year in a Fourth Way school helped me realize the "observer:" the part of consciousness that watches without collapsing into the drama. Gurdjieff's work is rigorous and strange and I am genuinely grateful for it. It was also not my path. Fully accepting that was its final lesson.

Vipassana Meditation gave me something more personal: the ability to trust my own knowing. To sit with what is actually present rather than hunting for what should be there. That capacity is the foundation of everything I do with astrology now.

Plant and chemical hallucinogenics opened channels into DNA and the places from where I believe our Karma and past lives are physically stored. Direct encounters with states of consciousness that bypassed the intellect entirely, that showed me something about the nature of unity that I could not have reasoned my way into.

Fine art and filmmaking taught me to see. To find what is actually true in a frame, a composition, a story... and to cut out what doesn't contribute to the essence. That eye is present in every chart reading I do. I'm still an artist, and a filmmaker. The more I step away from those identities, the more I see the inherent truth of creative endeavors.

INFLUENCES AND STEPPING STONES

Evolutionary Astrology

Jeffrey Wolf Green's framework. The chart as a soul document. Pluto, the nodes, and the arc of incarnational intent. Primary practice.

Fine Art & Cinema

Five decades of making things. Learning to find what is true in a frame. The eye that comes from this work is ever-present in every astrology reading.

Existentialism

Hesse, Camus, Dostoevsky... the refusal to take anything for granted. A philosophical backbone that questions every system including this one.

Hallucinogenic Medicine

Direct, unmediated encounters with states of consciousness that no tradition had prepared me for. Not recreational. Not for everyone. For me, some of the most important work I've ever done.

Fourth Way / Gurdjieff

One year of formal study. A useful and difficult stepping stone. The observer consciousness that was cultivated remains an integral part.

Vipassana Meditation

Meditation as a tool for direct knowing. Something that goes beneath beliefs into a direct experience. This is a practice that never ends.

ON RELIGION

"One Love doesn't mean I have completely made peace with everything. It means I'm working toward a perspective rather than being owned by the wound."

The Abrahamic traditions present a god of light and love that has, historically, authorized an extraordinary amount of suffering. I have not resolved my relationship to that. And according to my own natal chart, I'm not exactly supposed to resolve it all just yet. It's a deep part of my own evolution.

What the One Love philosophy presses upon me is this: every polarity, including the god of light and the forces that it is supposed to have created to oppose itself, is all just one side of a battery. The game that this battery powers is one we do not have to keep playing.

That is not acceptance. It is, perhaps, a different kind of refusal. It is to evolve past the incessant merry-go-round, and in brief moments, awaken. Our 3-D life will always pull us back, but our true moments of breaking free, of complete awe, can be experienced more than we give ourselves credit.

REBECCA ABRAXAS

My wife, Rebecca Abraxas, is a sound healer and spiritual mentor whose work is woven into several offerings here. The lunar sound bath in the Moon Phase Manifestation Method is hers. Harmonic Healing Maps, which integrates deep astrology with custom sound healing compositions, is built together.

We also are building a global community with One Love Alignment.

Her deeper practice lives at rebeccaabraxas.com. One Love Astrology is my work. The two are distinct, complementary, and — given my Pluto in Libra opposite the Sun — probably inevitable.

If any of this resonates...

Start with a reading, or start with the Moon Phase Manifestation Method.
Either way, you will know quickly if this is the right work for you.
